James Robert "Bob" Barker

December 17, 1938 — August 26, 2021

James Robert “Bob” Barker, age 82, of Eaton, OH passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 at Fort Hamilton Hospital.  He was born December 17, 1938 in Fountain City, IN to the late Robert J. and Marie K. (Watts) Barker.  Bob was a US Army Veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #215, Eaton, OH and 82nd Airborne Dayton Chapter; member of the First Presbyterian Church in Eaton; and a member of the New Paris Masonic Lodge, F&AM #106 and New Paris Eastern Star.  Bob also was a 25-year tour guide for Educational Travel.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Russell Conner; and brothers Wilbur Barker, David Barker and Bill Barker.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Barker of Eaton; stepdaughters: Patricia (Fred) McMaken of Greenville, OH, Marcia Shute of New Paris, OH and Jim (Sharon) Shute of West Alexandria, OH; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren; sister Dorothy McMillan of Richmond, IN; and several nieces and nephews.  Family and friends will be received on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 10:00 am until time of memorial service at 11:00 am at the Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., Eaton, OH.  Interment will follow at Springlawn Cemetery in New Paris, OH.  Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or First Presbyterian Church, 123 W.
