Obituary for Evelyn VanAusdal Russell

Evelyn VanAusdal Russell, age 97 of Dayton, OH and formerly of Eaton, OH entered into eternal rest on November 2, 2004, and graciously made a gift of her remains to the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University. She was born November 1, 1907 in West Alexandria, Ohio to the late Charles and Carrie (Plummer) VanAusdal. Evelyn graduated from Eaton High School, and attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She moved to Dayton, and worked in the business world. It was in Dayton that she met and married Joseph C. Russell. Joe’s work with Westinghouse took them to Pittsburgh, where they lived until retirement. Upon their retirement, Evelyn and Joe returned to Eaton and built a home on Mary Lane. Together, Joe and Evelyn loved to play golf. Several years after Joe’s passing in 1972, Evelyn moved to Friendship Village in Dayton, where she lived until her death. Evelyn was active in the Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder for many years. Evelyn was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, having been honored for over 40 years of active participation; was a 100 Club member of the Waldschmidt House Historical Museum; and was a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League, enjoying and participating in duplicate bridge tournaments around Ohio and nationally. Evelyn loved to travel, taking many trips across the United States, British Columbia, and the Caribbean. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Russell; her parents, Charles J. and Carrie (Plummer) VanAusdal; three sisters, June R. VanAusdal, Lelah Moon Lucas, and Nelle Lindberg; and two brothers, Leonard C. and Charles P. VanAusdal. Evelyn is survived by her niece, Louise Moon; great-nephews, Keith (Rhonda) VanAusdal and Jeffrey Moon; and great nieces, Nancy (Doug) Lee and Alice (Bill) Springer. A memorial celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 14, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, 123 West Decatur Street, Eaton, Ohio with the Rev. Wayne D. Morrison officiating. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Eaton, OH.
