Obituary for Donald D. Shaffer

Donald D. Shaffer, age 87, of New Paris, OH passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at his residence.  He was born January 9, 1934 in Preble County to the late John Denver and Mary Garnett (Petry) Shaffer.  Don was a U.S. Army Veteran.  He was a semi-truck operator hauling steel for many years.  He also was an avid hunter and fisherman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons: Randon L. Shaffer in 1973 and Ron L. Shaffer in 2016. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dixie Shaffer of New Paris; daughter Renee (Mike) Rose of Liberty Twp., OH; grandchildren Randon (Esther Kang) Rose of Baltimore, MD and Samantha Rose of Liberty Twp. OH; great grandson Asher Joon Kang-Rose of Baltimore, MD; brothers Loren (Joan) Shaffer of New Paris, Leland (Helen) Shaffer of Loretta, TN, John Junior (Leeanne) Shaffer of New Paris and Allen Shaffer of New Paris; sister Wanda (Bob) Smith of New Paris; and numerous nieces and nephews.  A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Wares Chapel Cemetery, 1060 Foos Road, West Manchester, OH.  The family requests that guests wear a mask and practice social distancing.  Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, Eaton is assisting with arrangements.  Online condolences and other remembrances may be sent by visiting
