Obituary for Donald Gene Lutz

Donald Gene Lutz, age 87, Eaton Ohio. Passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017 at his home. He was born June 14, 1930 in Brookville Ohio, to the late Sarah & William “Kaley” Lutz. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 52 years Joan, his brother Bill Lutz, and sister Margie Strunks. He & Joan were married on horseback in 1950. Don supported his family by running a milk route for Royal Crest Dairy. Together, with their passion for the horses, they started the Rodeo Shop Western Wear & Tack in 1959. Built their indoor riding arena in 1966, where they successfully taught many students how to ride & hosted many Equine events. In his later years, Don enjoyed the thrill of owning and racing harness horses. He is survived by his Brother Bob (Judy) Lutz, Daughter Marty Jo (Gary) Hays, Son Donnie (Melissa) Lutz, Granddaughter Sarah Ann (Cory Wysong) Lutz, Grandson Roy Lane (Heather) Lutz, multiple Great Grandchildren, and Nieces & Nephews. A Cowboy Gathering in his honor will be held Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the Rodeo Shop, Route 40, Eaton Ohio. Family & Friends all welcome. Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, Eaton is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting
