He was born June 23, 1916 in Chicago, IL to the late Rudolph Garfield and Ednah Whipple (Knox) Swigart. Josef was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served during WWII and was a retired Mechanical Engineer from the General Electric Company, Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Jean Klatt and grandson Erich Ehren Swigart. He is survived by his wife Doris M. Swigart of Dayton, OH; sons Donald K. (wife Patti) Schweigart of Union, OH, Douglas J. (wife Joy) Swigart of Birmingham, AL, Aajonus Vander Planitz (John Richards Swigart) of Los Angeles, CA and Patrick David (wife Linda) Swigart of Englewood, OH; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and sister Janet Cleaver of Pittsburgh, PA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the Mercy Siena Retirement Community, 6125 North Main Street, Dayton, OH 45415. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Montgomery, OH. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until time of mass at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday at Mercy Siena.
